Police in Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City have confirmed the video spread on social media on Sunday capturing two traffic police officers beating two young men is genuine, explaining that the two policemen lost their temper due to the two illegal racers’ profanity and insulting behaviors.

The show of anger took place on Saturday afternoon after the district’s traffic police and public order squad had sent ten officers to the scene where a gathering of young adults had reportedly participated in an illegal motorbike race in Hamlet 3, Tan Nhut Commune at around 5:30 pm.

As the racers made loud noise and caused street disorder, the traffic police officers tried to stop them by force.

However, not all of them followed the order, with some riding their motorbikes away to escape and others throwing sand and rocks at the functional forces.

Two of the traffic police officers pursued and managed to catch some of the runaways.

The two policemen requested them to sit still on the ground. But some of them started challenging the functional forces with profanity and insulting words.

As they continued their offensive behaviors despite the officers’ request for them to stop, one officer grabbed a young man by his collar, dragging him on the ground and slapping him, while the other policeman kicked another young man.

The 46-second footage capturing the police officers’ acts, apparently by a car camera, was later spread on social media.

According to the Binh Chanh police, a total of 14 young adults and 11 motorbikes were brought to the police station in Tan Nhat Commune in the case.

This group of young adults often organizes illegitimate motorbike races locally and advertises them on a YouTube channel named 'San choi Binh Chanh' (Binh Chanh Playground), according to the police.

The commune police then released six motorbikes and kept the remaining five in custody, which were either unlicensed or had their components illegally replaced.

The investigation into the case is underway.

Meanwhile, the district’s police are also clarifying the two aforementioned officers’ responses.
