Vietnam's functional forces are preparing a plan to rescue a cargo ship that has been stranded two kilometers offshore of Quang Tri Province while it was waiting to load sand near a port in the north-central province for a trip to South Korea.
Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier Glory Future, captained by 50-year-old Chinese Jwo Quojiang, was anchored about three nautical miles off Cua Viet Port on Sunday morning when big waves and strong winds caused the vessel to drift to the south and run aground two kilometers from the shore of the port.
Twenty crew members, including 12 Vietnamese and eight Chinese, were on board the ship as it was about to receive and transport 26,000 metric tons of sand en route to South Korea at that time.
Upon receiving reports of the case, Quang Tri border guard officers coordinated with the provincial port authority and the captain to draw up a rescue plan.
They agreed to temporarily anchor the ship at the stranded position and wait until heavy rains end before carrying out the rescue.
