Health ministry records 13,770 new coronavirus cases in Vietnam

The Ministry of Health logged 13,770 more COVID-19 infections in Vietnam on Monday, together with 16,088 recoveries and 173 fatalities.

The latest cases, including 12 imported and 13,758 domestic transmissions, were reported in 59 provinces and cities, the ministry said, elaborating that 7,601 patients were infected in the community.

Ho Chi Minh City recorded 1,554 of the latest infections, Can Tho City 913, Tay Ninh Province 719, Binh Duong Province 697, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 648, Binh Thuan Province 576, Dong Nai Province 548, Hanoi 429, Khanh Hoa Province 308, Lam Dong Province 174, Ha Giang Province 163, Thua Thien-Hue Province 119, Quang Nam Province 84, Da Nang 65, Hai Phong City 36, and Quang Ninh Province nine.   

Vietnam had found 12,936 locally-acquired infections on Sunday.

The country has confirmed 1,218,886 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave erupted on April 27. A total of 971,907 of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Ho Chi Minh City leads the caseload with 468,961 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 281,605, Dong Nai Province with 86,732, Long An Province with 38,088, Tay Ninh Province with 27,901, Tien Giang Province with 24,688, An Giang Province with 22,866, Dong Thap Province with 21,422, Can Tho City with 16,745, Binh Thuan Province with 16,223, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 14,217, Khanh Hoa Province with 13,030, Hanoi with 10,113, and Da Nang with 5,947.

Vietnam reported only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry registered 16,088 recovered patients on Monday, lifting the total to 974,724.

The toll has risen to 25,055 mortalities after the ministry documented 173 deaths on the same day, including 62 in Ho Chi Minh City, 22 in Binh Duong Province, 12 in Dong Nai Province, 10 in An Giang Province, and the remaining in 16 other provinces and cities.  

Vietnam has confirmed 1,224,110 patients since the COVID-19 pandemic first struck it early last year.

Health workers have given more than 120 million vaccine doses, including 1,231,057 shots on Sunday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8.

Almost 71 million of the country’s 98 million people have got at least one dose while over 49.6 million are now fully vaccinated.

Health authorities target to fully inoculate 80 percent of the adults and 100 percent of those aged 12 to under 18 by the end of this year, according to a draft government plan for COVID-19 response in 2021-23.
