A woman from Thanh Hoa Province in north-central Vietnam has been arrested for allegedly beating to death her creditor before hiding the victim’s body in a biogas pit.
The provincial Department of Public of Security confirmed on Monday that officers had apprehended Nguyen Thi Vuong, 38, a resident in Thach Quang Commune, Thach Thanh District.
Preliminary information showed that Vuong borrowed VND158 million (US$6,900) from P.T.T., 39, in early February 2021.
By January this year, Vuong had paid T. VND162 million ($7,100) including the original debt and a part of the interest.
Vuong still needed to pay another VND133 million ($5,800) worth of interest.
On January 28, T. arrived at Vuong’s house to receive the payment, but the latter was only able to give VND100 million ($4,400) and said she would pay the rest later.
The body of P.T.T. is found in the biogas pit behind Nguyen Thi Vuong’s house in Thanh Hoa Province in this photo supplied by a local resident. |
However, the creditor returned to the place the same day and demanded that Vuong pay the remaining VN33 million ($1,400).
Their conversation ended up in violence, with Vuong hitting T. with a wooden stick until the latter collapsed on the floor.
Vuong then put the victim’s body in a bag before hiding it in the biogas pit behind her house.
Police found T.’s body on January 30, two days after the victim’s family reported her missing.
Further investigation is ongoing.
