Vietnam reports 267,540 more COVID-19 infections

The Ministry of Health confirmed 267,540 COVID-19 cases throughout Vietnam on Wednesday, in addition to 167,163 recoveries and 62 virus-linked mortalities.

The newest cases, including six imported and 267,534 domestic transmissions, were registered in 62 provinces and cities, the health ministry said.

Nghe An and Thanh Hoa Provinces recorded 98,850 of the latest local cases, including 86,982 detected on previous days; Hanoi 26,220; Vinh Phuc Province 8,875; Phu Tho Province 8,335; Bac Ninh Province 5,751; Binh Duong Province 5,285; Lao Cai Province 4,810; Ca Mau Province 3,881; Binh Dinh Province 3,115; Quang Ninh Province 2,999; Ben Tre Province 2,686; Lam Dong Province 2,598; Ho Chi Minh City 2,052; Vinh Long Province 1,770; Da Nang 1,297; Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 918; Binh Thuan Province 800; and Can Tho City 130.

Vietnam had logged 175,468 locally-transmitted infections on Tuesday.

The country has documented 6,812,818 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. More than 3.5 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Hanoi leads the caseload with 891,347 patients, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 575,229, Binh Duong Province with 349,319, Nghe An Province 304,937, Bac Ninh Province 242,372, Hai Duong Province 140,422, Tay Ninh Province with 107,029, Ca Mau Province 106,743, Dong Nai Province with 104,351, Hai Phong City 104,092, Binh Phuoc Province 91,250, Da Nang with 82,294, and Can Tho City with 47,454.

Vietnam reported only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry announced 167,163 recovered patients on Wednesday, lifting the national count to 3,547,488.

The toll has spiked to 41,607, with 62 pathogen-related deaths added today. 

Vietnam has found 6,820,458 cases in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have administered upwards of 200.7 million vaccine doses, including 213,625 shots on Tuesday, since vaccination was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Above 183.6 million doses have been given to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 70,923,138 first shots, 67,842,586 second doses, 14,581,172 additional primary jabs, and 28,836690 boosters.    

A combined 17,052,961 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,751,020 first doses and 8,301,941 second jabs.
