Vietnam registers 58,424 additional coronavirus infections

The Ministry of Health logged 58,424 coronavirus infections across Vietnam on Wednesday, together with 130,273 recoveries and 31 virus-linked deaths.

The newest cases, all domestic transmissions, were recorded in 61 provinces and cities, the health ministry said in a daily report.

Quang Ninh Province documented 11,268 of the latest local cases, including 9,300 added from previous days; Hanoi 4,037; Nghe An Province 2,302; Yen Bai Province 2,230; Dak Lak Province 2,064; Quang Binh Province 1,494; Bac Kan Province 1,406; Bac Ninh Province 1,357; Ho Chi Minh City 1,075; Hai Duong Province 945; Vinh Long Province 819; Lam Dong Province 765; Ben Tre Province 702; Binh Dinh Province 593; Da Nang 539; Binh Duong Province 413; Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 352; Hai Phong City 271; and Can Tho City 17.

The Ministry of Health announced 54,995 infections on Tuesday.

Vietnam has confirmed 9,972,725 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Close to 8.3 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Hanoi stays atop with 1,511,549 patients, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 599,173, Nghe An Province 408,134, Binh Duong Province with 379,991, Hai Duong Province 350,248, Bac Ninh Province 331,374, Ca Mau Province 146,730, Tay Ninh Province with 133,005, Hai Phong City 117,757, Binh Phuoc Province 113,760, Dong Nai Province with 106,398, Da Nang with 97,298, and Can Tho City with 49,186.

Vietnam detected only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry reported 130,273 recovered patients on Wednesday, taking the national count to 8,277,563.

The toll has spiked to 42,712, with 31 pathogen-related mortalities added today. 

Vietnam has registered 9,980,464 cases in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have given above 207.2 million vaccine doses, including 211,704 shots on Tuesday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

More than 190 million doses have been administered to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 71,250,992 first shots, 68,084,404 second doses, 14,958,539 additional primary jabs, and 34,237,712 boosters.    

A combined 17,197,998 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,811,947 first doses and 8,386,051 second jabs.
