Vietnam health ministry confirms 28,307 new COVID-19 cases

The Ministry of Health recorded 28,307 more COVID-19 infections across Vietnam on Sunday, alongside 34,991 recoveries and 19 virus-related fatalities.

The newest cases, all domestic transmissions, were reported in 62 provinces and cities, the health ministry said in a daily update, adding that 20,635 were infected in the community.

Hanoi logged 2,181 of the latest local cases, Bac Giang Province 1,533, Nghe An Province 1,525, Yen Bai Province 1,510, Quang Ninh Province 1,086, Quang Binh Province 840, Ho Chi Minh City 770, Bac Ninh Province 590, Lam Dong Province 505, Hai Duong Province 441, Gia Lai Province 399, Vinh Long Province 348, Quang Nam Province 247, Binh Duong Province 218, Da Nang 199, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 138, Khanh Hoa Province 85, Hai Phong City 85, and Can Tho City 16.

The Ministry of Health announced 34,140 infections on Saturday.

Vietnam has detected 10,190,492 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Above 8.5 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Hanoi has been severely affected with 1,522,464 patients, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 601,886, Nghe An Province 415,171, Binh Duong Province with 381,599, Hai Duong Province 353,334, Bac Ninh Province 334,339, Ca Mau Province 148,095, Tay Ninh Province with 134,702, Hai Phong City 118,382, Binh Phuoc Province 115,339, Dong Nai Province with 106,493, Da Nang with 98,703, and Can Tho City with 49,292.

Vietnam documented only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry registered 34,991 recovered patients on Sunday, raising the national count to 8,532,523.

The toll has climbed to 42,813, with 19 pathogen-associated mortalities added today. 

Vietnam has confirmed 10,198,236 cases in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have given more than 208.5 million vaccine doses, including 64,501 shots on Saturday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Upwards of 191.2 million doses have been administered to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 71,382,102 first shots, 68,487,414 second doses, 15,008,830 additional primary jabs, and 34,913,916 boosters.    

A combined 17,227,515 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,822,709 first doses and 8,404,806 second jabs.
