Thousands of people visited attractions and entertainment sites in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday morning, the first day of the four-day public holiday to celebrate Vietnam’s Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1).

The rainy weather, which was in the forecast for the entire four days from Friday evening through Tuesday, did not stop people from enjoying their holiday outdoor.

The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens in District 1, Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 11, Binh Quoi Tourist Village in Binh Thanh District, and Suoi Tien Theme Park in Thu Duc City were among the favorite destinations.

The crowds consisted of not only residents of Ho Chi Minh City but also those from localities that provide convenient travel to the southern metropolis and a return within the day.

Notably, the Dam Sen Cultural Park welcomed more than 4,000 visitors within three hours after its opening on Saturday morning, according to a spokesperson.

The number was estimated to reach 20,000, about ten times higher than usual, by the end of the day.

Meanwhile, over 5,000 people visited the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens on Saturday morning.

Binh Quoi Tourist Village also saw a surge in visitors, at around 1,500 guests, on the day as it offered a buffet party.

Cu Chi Tunnels in Cu Chi District, the iconic Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica, the Central Post Office, the Reunification Palace, and the Ho Chi Minh City Museum in District 1 also received a large number of visitors.
