Police in Hanoi have arrested a taxi driver who reportedly stole properties from two Russian tourists early on Thursday morning.
Officers in Hang Bong Ward, Hoan Kiem District confirmed on Thursday afternoon they had apprehended a local cab driver for stealing from two Russian passengers.
The arrest was made after the story of the incident was shared on social media earlier the same day.
Preliminary information shows that two Russian women, who arrived in Vietnam about two days ago, booked a taxi on Hang Bong Street, located in the famous Old Quarter in Hanoi, at around 2:50 am on Thursday.
The foreigners asked if they could charge their phones and left the devices, along with other belongings, in the car.
They told the driver to wait for them as they needed to exchange some money.
However, the taxi driver sped away along with the visitors’ phones and belongings.
After hearing the victims’ cry for help, local residents tried to ask them about the incident and offered help.
Some of the eyewitnesses later posted the story on social media.
Police officers arrested the suspect at around 11:00 am the same day and confiscated the two phones that he stole from the victims.
