The incident occurred at the pig farm of Hoang Van Nha in Tay Do Commune, Hung Ha District, Dinh Khac Nhien, the commune chairman, confirmed later the same day.

Following the lightning strike, all 229 hogs at the farm died.

The farm animals weighed 80 to 150 kilograms each and were about to be sold, said chairman Nhien.

The entire roof of the 600-square-meter farm was burned, while many objects were also damaged.

The total damage was estimated at billions of dong. (VND1 billion = US$43,300)

Local authorities have examined the site and assessed the damage caused by the lightning strike.

On the same day, three people were fatally struck by lightning while riding their motorcycles along Provincial Road No.456 in Thai Thuy District, Thai Binh Province.

The victims included a 36-year-old woman, her 16-year-old son, and a 50-year-old man.

There was a downpour accompanied by a thunderstorm in the locale at that time, according to a local official.
