More than 3,500 square meters of forest land in Mang Den, an ecotourism destination in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, are occupied by illegally constructed homestays and villas, according to the local authorities.
The People’s Committee of Mang Den Town in Kon Plong District, Kon Tum Province said on Thursday that it determined 13 cases of such encroachment and three other villas built on unauthorized land.
In two of those 13 cases, two owners of a villa and three vacant lots encroached on more than 500 square meters each on Pham Van Dong Street.
The People’s Committee of Mang Den Town intended to impose administrative sanctions on the violators in accordance with regulations.
The violators also have to dismantle the unlawfully built structures, return the forest land they occupied without permission to their original state, and replant any trees that were cut down.
Mang Den is a small town surrounded by mountains and rich forest flora in Kon Tum Province of Vietnam’s Central Highlands region.
It is rising as a getaway for backpackers who love unspoiled forest landscapes.
