The management board of Ke Go Nature Reserve in Ha Tinh Province, north-central Vietnam, announced on Saturday the suspension of a forest protection officer for an investigation into the felling of dozens of forest trees.
Nguyen Van Duc, head of the forest management and protection department under the Ke Go Nature Reserve, has been suspended from his post for 15 days starting August 25.
A deputy director from the nature reserve has taken over his duty in the meantime.
Two inspections on August 17 and 22 at a forest in Cam Xuyen District managed by Duc showed 42 large trees were removed for unknown reasons.
The inspectors determined that Duc involved in the tree removal.
Duc blamed workers who were hired to lawfully exploit acacia trees for cutting down the mentioned 42 forest trees without permission.
Police officers and the People’s Procuracy of Cam Xuyen District are investigating the case.
