A video capturing a man tying his three children to a rock to threaten his wife for money in Tay Ninh Province, southern Vietnam went viral on Monday, agitating viewers.

N.V.H. -- the man in question -- and his three children, who are four, five, and seven years old, are living in Tan Bien District, Tay Ninh, and the incident in the self-recorded video happened in mid-October, according to local authorities.

In the footage, H. is seen using a rope to tie the three kids to a rock within a garden.

“Your mom only sends money to your grandmother, not to me and you,” he said in the video.

H. sent the video to L.T.B.T., who is his wife and is working in Cambodia.

T. then sent H. VND5 million (US$201) via bank transfer.

Three days later, T. could not contact H. and had to have her mother, L.T.N., report the video to local police on October 21.

Local police summoned H. on the same day and was told by the man that he had filmed the video to intimidate his wife for money.

There was no information about a penalty for H. after the man said he recognized that his action was outlawed and pledged not to repeat the offense.
