Chairman of Vietnam's lawmaking National Assembly (NA) Tran Thanh Man will head a high-ranking delegation to pay an official visit to Russia from September 8 to 10, according to the NA Committee for External Relations’ announcement on Friday.

He will co-chair the third meeting of the Vietnam-Russia Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee during the three-day visit, which will be made at the invitation of Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin and Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia's Federal Assembly Valentina Ivanovna Matviyenko.

This will be his first overseas trip since he was elected NA chairman of Vietnam on May 20.

On June 20, the top Vietnamese legislator held talks with President of Russia Vladimir Putin in Hanoi as part of the Russian president’s two-day state visit to Vietnam, which had started a day earlier.

NA Chairman Man affirmed that inter-parliamentary cooperation is one of the key pillars in friendship and cooperation between the two countries, adding that this cooperation has been consistently strengthened over time.

President Putin expressed his hope that the Vietnamese legislature would ratify and support bilateral initiatives, saying that he was looking forward to Man’s official visit to Russia.

Last year, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin and his entourage paid a visit to Vietnam from October 15 to 16 at the invitation of then-NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

The Russian State Duma chairman then held talks and met with top Vietnamese officials as well as co-hosted the second meeting of the Vietnam-Russia Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.
