Police in Hanoi are investigating the cause of an explosion that damaged a ceiling and several windows and lightly injured an employee at the Savico Megamall shopping center in Long Bien District on Sunday.

The explosion occurred at a restaurant inside the mall on the morning of the day when the venue was still closed, a police official told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.

The incident caused the ceiling of the restaurant to peel off and scatter on the floor, and also broke some glass windows.

“A staff member of the shopping center was lightly injured,” the official said.

“After being taken to the hospital for examination, doctors allowed him to go home.”

The official also refuted rumors widespread on social networks that the explosion killed one person.

The Savico Megamall shopping center has suspended operations to repair the building.
