A new cold front is expected to bring rains and low temperatures to northern Vietnam starting on Wednesday, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
The cold spell was moving toward Vietnam’s northern region as of Monday morning and will begin influencing weather conditions in northern provinces by early Wednesday morning.
The cold snap will later expand its effect on north-central localities.
Temperatures in northern and north-central provinces will begin to dip on Wednesday evening and night.
Average lows will be 10-13 degrees Celsius in the Red River Delta and north-central Thanh Hoa Province, six to nine degrees Celsius in mountainous areas, and below five degrees Celsius on high mountains.
In the localities from Nghe An to Thua Thien-Hue, the lowest mercury will be around 14-17 degrees Celsius.
Winds of 13-20km per hour will be recorded on the mainland and 20-40km an hour in coastal areas.
Rough seas, strong winds, and waves as high as two to five meters will be recorded in the Gulf of Tonkin and along the maritime area from north-central Quang Tri Province to central Quang Ngai Province.
From Tuesday night to Thursday, showers and thunderstorms will dampen northern localities as well as north-central Thanh Hoa and Nghe An Provinces.
Medium to heavy downpours will lash the localities from north-central Ha Tinh Province to central Quang Ngai Province from Wednesday night to Friday.
