A 41-year-old Vietnamese man was sentenced to death for murdering a married couple over a romantic conflict.
The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court on Wednesday conducted the trial of Quach Hao Quang from the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau.
Quang was given capital punishment for murdering H.T.M. and her husband N.H.H..
M. and H. had been legally married since 2013 and lived at a house in Hoc Mon District, according to the case file.
In 2019, M. developed a romantic relationship with Quang. She told him that she had divorced her husband.
In late 2020, Quang discovered that M. was still living with her husband and became infuriated.
On October 9, 2021, Quang was under the influence of alcohol and unable to contact M. via her phone number, thus he assumed his girlfriend had cheated on him.
At around 8:30 pm the same day, Quang brought along a knife and headed to M.’s house.
Quang walked into the house and said he wanted to talk.
However, M. said there was nothing to talk about and told her husband to beat Quang.
The married couple repeatedly hit Quang and pushed him out of their house, before Quang attacked back with his knife.
M. and H. were killed following the incident.
At the trial, Quang stated that he was trying to take back the money M. had borrowed from him, but could not provide any proof that he had lent the victim money.
Meanwhile, M.’s son said that Quang had repeatedly caused trouble at their house and even assaulted M..
The family had to live in fear for a long time and had reported the situation to local police once, but Quang kept coming to their house, the son stated.
