The 5th International Exhibition and Conference for Horticultural and Floricultural Production and Processing Technology in Vietnam, or HortEx Vietnam 2023, kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

The three-day exhibition, set to take place until Friday, is being held at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center in District 7.

HortEx Vietnam is the largest professional meeting place in Southeast Asia for businesses and experts in the vegetable, flower, and fruit industry.

Participating businesses will have the opportunity to meet and discuss directly with potential customers as well as enhance promotion and export activities for this promising market.

The exhibition attracts professionals, buyers, and visitors from Vietnam and countries from the region and around the world.

It helps Vietnamese businesses access advanced technology in the world and expand their export market.

Kees van Baar, the Netherlands Ambassador to Vietnam, welcomed visitors to the exhibition’s European Pavilion by hosting a special ceremony on Wednesday.

“Vietnam is an agricultural country with great potential for development to become a major player of horticultural and floricultural products," he said.

“The Netherlands is delighted to support Vietnam in achieving its goals in this sector."

This year, HortEx attracts nearly 200 exhibitors from 25 countries and territories, including the Netherlands, the U.S., Germany, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Thailand, Singapore, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, and Vietnam, including the national pavilions of the Netherlands, Turkey, and Vietnam.

The Netherlands is the 'partner country' for HortEx Vietnam 2023, with a record number of 33 exhibitors who showcase the best of Dutch agricultural technologies, innovations, and expertise.

After the United States, the Netherlands is the biggest exporter of agricultural produce in the world.

The Netherlands' agricultural sector exports some €65 billion (US$69.1 billion) worth of agricultural produce annually, according to government data.

It is a global leader in cut and bulb flowers and ornamental plants, and one of the world's major commercial floral trading centers.

They are also advancing intelligent greenhouses and cultivation systems for different climate conditions using intelligent software and sensors, which monitor plant growth, the threat of disease outbreaks, and water intake.

In addition to displaying products and technology at the booths, HortEx Vietnam 2023 also attracts specialized visitors with many activities taking place in parallel at the exhibition such as: Seminars and Symposium; Export Forum; The Grower Talks – Sharing Experience among Growers; Business Connection Program; International Flower and Fruit Exhibition.

HortEx Vietnam 2023 expects to welcome about 8,000 trade visitors.

Horticulture and floriculture are some of the most promising sectors of the Vietnamese economy and, according to experts, Vietnam has the potential to become one of the world’s largest flower exporters.
