Police in Luc Nam District, Bac Giang Province, northern Vietnam have busted a drug trafficking ring and confiscated nearly 30,000 pills of synthetic drugs hidden in chocolate packs and cosmetics boxes.
The bust was the largest of its kind ever recorded in the district, according to Luc Nam District police officers.
Police officers identified a suspicious Hyundai car on National Highway 31 in Doi Ngo Town at 9:00 am on Wednesday and pulled it over for a check.
During the check, police discovered four large cardboard boxes in the trunk of the car, which was being driven by D.V.T., a 36-year-old resident of Doi Ngo Town.
The driver confessed that the boxes belonged to Pham Van Long, 27, who was also in the car.
After opening the containers, police found many imported cosmetics boxes and chocolate packs, each containing dozens of illicit pills.
Pham Van Long admitted that some 30,000 pills were illegal drugs bought from an acquaintance in Hanoi. He intended to sell them in Bac Giang Province.
Police are expanding the investigation into the case.
