A Vietnamese female karaoke bar staff member has been charged with beating her two-year-old son to death while she was under the influence in southern Binh Duong Province.

She was identified as Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, 28, a native of An Giang Province, southern Vietnam.

The Binh Duong Provincial People’s Procuracy on Friday approved a decision to file charges against Thao for the alleged murder of her son.

She was earlier detained by the investigators of Binh Duong on May 18.

According to a police report, Thao was living with her two kids, aged 3 and 2, in a boarding house in Binh Duong.

At around 7:30 pm on May 16, she returned home from work and was drunk.

Her younger child, named N.H.G.A., cried while Thao was asleep.

After failing to soothe the crying baby, Thao kept beating him until he stopped crying.

The mother went back to sleep then.

At about 11:00 pm the same day, she woke up and discovered her younger child was pale and no longer breathing.

She requested someone to rush her and the baby to a local hospital, where the boy was confirmed dead before being hospitalized.

Thao confessed that she had beaten her son multiple times but could not recall which parts of his body that she beat.

This mother also admitted to using meth.
