Sixteen suspects had been seized as of 4:30 pm on Sunday for their alleged involvement in an armed group attack that killed and injured several police officers as well as local residents earlier in the day in Vietnam’s Central Highlands region, confirmed a police official.
According to Lieutenant General To An Xo, spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security, the police and relevant forces in Dak Lak Province are hunting for the remaining suspects, who were among dozens of armed people that gunned down a number of police officers and locals at two police stations in Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur Communes of Cu Kuin District.
The forces also rescued two of the three local people held hostage in the fatal armed attack, while the third managed to escape from the armed attackers on his own.
Earlier in the day, on being notified of the attack, the ministry directed the provincial police and relevant units to take urgent measures to seize the armed group, while calling on locals in Cu Kuin and neighboring localities to stay calm and follow the instructions of authorities.
Xo added that those who have information on the armed group should contact the nearest police station.
