A house in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City caught fire on Tuesday afternoon, claiming the lives of two people trapped inside.

Many locals discovered the flames at the house covering 90 square meters of land in an alley on Nguyen Cuu Van Street in Ward 17 at 5:30 pm, so they shouted out and tried to use extinguishers to put out the blaze in vain.

The inferno engulfed the house and gave rise to a giant column of black smoke, while two people stuck in the locked house were crying for help.

Many firefighters, police officers, and fire trucks of the Binh Thanh police agency were quickly dispatched to the scene for rescue operations.

The fire was put under control a few minutes later, but police officers found the two people dead inside.

The deceased were identified as N.T.V., 91, and N.P.M., 55.

V. was old and weak, while M. was intellectually disabled.

Police were still working with relevant units to cordon off the house and investigate the fire at 8:00 pm on the same day.
