A Vietjet Air plane en route from South Korea’s Incheon to Vietnam’s Phu Quoc made an unscheduled yet safe landing at a Philippine airport on Wednesday morning after experiencing a technical issue warning.
Neither passengers nor cabin crew members aboard the flight were hurt, a Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) official told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Wednesday afternoon.
The VJ975 Flight carrying 214 passengers departed from Incheon City for the Vietnamese island city of Phu Quoc at 11:43 pm on Tuesday, said the CAAV official.
After being notified of a technical issue warning, the pilot diverted the plane to Iaoag International Airport in Ilocos Norte Province of the Philippines.
The aircraft made a safe landing at the Philippine airport at 4:20 am on Wednesday, approximately four hours after departure.
The CAAV official said that the pilot had handled the unexpected situation properly and in a way that posed no risk of danger to people and the aircraft.
Vietjet then dispatched a replacement aircraft to the Philippines to transport the passengers to Phu Quoc on Wednesday.
The carrier has already reported the issue to CAAV, as per prevailing regulations.
The national aviation authority is working to clarify the technical issue, said the CAAV representative.
As the plane in charge of operating the VJ975 Flight had to make the unscheduled landing, there was a domino effect that caused issues for some other Vietjet flights.
Passengers affected by delays will recieve support from the carrier.
