Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted a reception in Hanoi on Tuesday for Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam He Wei, suggesting the Chinese side soon implement large-scale investment projects reflecting China's level of development in Vietnam.

The government leader hinted at stepping up cooperation in building standard-gauge railway lines connecting the two countries, proposing China continue to open its doors for Vietnamese agricultural products.

PM Chinh affirmed that Vietnam consistently considers the development of relations with China an objective requirement, a strategic choice, and a top priority in its overall foreign policy.

He called on both sides to seriously follow high-level common perceptions regarding the better control and settlement of differences at sea, respect each other’s legitimate rights and interests, and properly handle disputes in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

He expressed his gratitude for China’s sympathy and support for Vietnam to overcome the devastating aftermath of typhoon Yagi, which made landfall in northern Vietnam in early September, and subsequent floods.

The premier appreciated China’s sharing of hydrological information and cooperation in regulating water release from hydropower dams to minimize flood damage.

He reaffirmed that the Vietnamese government, ministries, and localities will create favorable conditions for the ambassador to fulfill his duties.

PM Chinh expected the Chinese ambassador to encourage Chinese ministries and localities to continue teaming up with the Vietnamese side to comprehensively and effectively realize high-level agreements and common perceptions, with a focus on regular visits and delegation exchanges at all levels.

The two nations should deepen cooperation in economy-trade, investment, transport infrastructure connectivity, culture, education, tourism, climate change response, disaster prevention, water security, and construction of smart border gates.

The Chinese ambassador asserted that he would prompt Chinese ministries, agencies, and localities to work with Vietnam to fully realize the high-level common perceptions and signed agreements, and enhance the regular exchange of high-level visits to foster political trust.

He was also committed to helping promote cooperation in diplomacy and national defense-security, as well as economy-trade, investment, transportation, supply and production chains, tourism, healthcare, education, digital transformation, green growth, and people-to-people exchange.

He Wei was appointed as Chinese ambassador to Vietnam in mid-September, becoming the 19th envoy since Vietnam and China established diplomatic relations in 1950.
