Ho Chi Minh City seeks to improve traffic flow and reduce flooding on Tan Thoi Hiep 21 Street in District 12 by upgrading and widening the road with an investment of VND1.364 trillion (US$55.3 million).
The municipal People’s Council approved adjustments to the road expansion project at its meeting a few days ago.
According to the District 12 project management board, which is the project’s developer, the city’s Department of Transport green-lighted the project in 2016.
This road is an important link from Tan Thoi Hiep Ward in District 12 to National Highway 1 and Go Vap District.
The section from Duong Thi Muoi Street to Nguyen Thi Dang Street has severely deteriorated, with deep potholes that pose a significant hazard.
With heavy congestion at rush hour, poor conditions increase the risk of traffic accidents.
Initially, the road was going to be expanded to 16 meters.
Following several revisions, the route’s width will increase to 25 meters.
The developer will also install a new drainage system on Duong Thi Muoi Street and adjust works related to site clearance, compensation, and resettlement, prompting the total investment to grow to VND1.364 trillion from VND403 billion ($16.3 million).
The project will be implemented between now and 2027.
