-- Typhoon Talim, the first storm in the East Vietnam Sea this year, was located 140 kilometers east and southeast of Mong Cai City in Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam at 4:00 am on Tuesday, packing winds at level 10-11 (89-117 kilometers per hour), gusting up to level 14. The typhoon was forecast to weaken into a tropical depression by 4:00 pm on Tuesday, the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting reported.
-- Police and customs officers in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday said that they caught a 35-year-old Kenyan woman carrying 2.3 kilograms of cocaine hidden in her luggage at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on Friday last week.
-- Land subsidence sank a road section over 120 meters long and six meters wide along the Phu An River in Cai Lay District, Tien Giang Province, southern Vietnam on Monday, a local official confirmed.
-- The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam on Monday asked the Northern Airports Authority to suspend aircraft arrivals and departures at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm, as well as at Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh Province and Cat Bi International Airport in Hai Phong City from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Tuesday to respond to typhoon Talim, the first storm to hit Vietnam this year.
-- The European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham) in Vietnam has submitted a letter to Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, proposing the expansion of Vietnam’s visitor visa exemption list to encompass all 27 EU member countries. At present, only seven EU member countries are entitled to Vietnam’s visa waiver policy, namely Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland.

-- Vietnam attracted over US$13.43 billion in foreign investment in the first half of this year, equal to 95.7 percent of the figure recorded in the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
