Police in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday fined Jean-Marcel Guillon, CEO of FV Hospital, VND5 million (US$209) for insulting officers on duty over an incident in Thao Dien Ward, Thu Duc City last December.
Guillon, a French national, was accused of assaulting Vu Viet Hung, 57, who worked as a private security guard at a house in Thao Dien on December 2, 2022.
According to Hung’s report, he was guarding at the gate of a house on Nguyen Van Huong Street at around 11:35 pm that day.
A car arrived before two foreign men got out of the vehicle and said they were looking for their friend at the residence.
Hung explained that this was a private house and that the men’s friend did not live in the house, but one of them started yelling and insisted on entering the residence.
“He pressed his hand against my chest, pulled my shirt, and then slapped me on the back of my neck,” Hung recalled.
The foreign man only stopped when some neighbors intervened.
The owner of the house later got out and explained to the strangers that they were not allowed to enter his home.
The foreign man was still yelling when police officers arrived.
He and relevant individuals were requested to follow the officers to the police station, before they were sent home.
Guillon later clarified that he was having dinner that day when a friend called him and said that the latter’s friend needed emergency treatment.
He then headed to the address that his friend had given him and thought that the house where Hung was guarding was the right place.
The CEO said he tried to explained but the security guard did not understand English, so he insisted on entering the residence.
After Guillon’s friend showed him the correct address, he was able to save his friend.
The Frenchman admitted that might have overreacted thinking that the security guard was preventing him from saving a dying friend.
Guillon apologized for having an impact on Hung’s body and possibly affecting his health, adding that he would take Hung to FV Hospital for monitoring and care if the latter agreed.
The FV CEO stated he would meet and apologize directly to the security guard.
