A man jumped to his death from an elevated station of the Cat Linh – Ha Dong metro line in Hanoi on Tuesday afternoon.

At about 5:45 pm on Tuesday, a man fell off the Thai Ha metro station onto Hoang Cau Street, said an eyewitness.

The man hit a five-seater car before ending up on the ground.

Police in Dong Da District said that the victim was identified as H.V.Q., a 32-year-old resident of Ha Nam Province, over 54 kilometers from Hanoi.

After his fall, he died on the spot.

Footage from security cameras showed that the man committed suicide by jumping off the station, a representative of Metro Hanoi, the operator of the Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro line, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.

“The man and his wife took an escalator up, and after that he rushed to the parapet and jumped down,” said the representative.

His wife tried in vain to catch him, the representative added.

The Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway project was officially put into operation in November 2021.

The metro line is 13 kilometers long and has 12 stations, starting at the Cat Linh Station in Ba Dinh District and ending at the Yen Nghia Station in Ha Dong District.
