A fisherman is receiving medical treatment after being punctured by the sharp bill of a swordfish, sparking a dramatic rescue far off Binh Thuan Province in south-central Vietnam, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

Nguyen Van Nh., a 39-year-old man from south-central Phu Yen Province, was working on a fishing boat operating in the waters approximately 120 nautical miles southeast of Binh Thuan’s Phu Quy Island on Friday morning when he was attacked by the fish.

The bill of the swordfish pierced his abdomen, leaving him in a critical condition.

In a dramatic rescue, the Border Guard Station at Phu Quy Port dispatched a rescue vessel carrying 11 soldiers and two medical officers to the fishing boat’s location.

The rescue crew met the fishing boat at around 2:00 pm on the same day and successfully gave the victim first aid before winching him aboard.

They arrived at Phu Quy Port later on Friday afternoon.
