Police in Ward 1 of Da Lat, a popular tourist city in Vietnam's Central Highlands region, praised two sanitation workers on Thursday for their honesty after they found a laptop and US$4,700 in cash on a street and handed them over to officers.
The police officers returned the cash and laptop to Vo Thanh Vuong, a 32-year-old resident of Quang Ngai Province in central Vietnam, on the same day.
Vu Thi Thu and Khieu Nu Thanh Chuc, both sanitation workers at Da Lat Urban Service JSC, were cleaning Nguyen Van Cu Street in Ward 1 at 9:00 pm on Wednesday, when they spotted a black backpack near a tree on the sidewalk.
The backpack contained a Dell laptop and 47 $100-dollar bills.
Thu and Chuc brought it to a nearby police station, hoping that it would be reunited with its rightful owner.
Vuong told police that he had inadvertently left the backpack on Nguyen Van Cu Street.
The Ward 1 People’s Committee sent a thank-you letter to the two sanitation workers for their meaningful act.
An official from the Da Lat City People’s Committee said that the municipal administration acknowledged their contribution to building the image of a hospitable, gentle, and elegant city.
