The People’s Committee of Thu Duc City has proposed to the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City the development of a 120-hectare specialized medical cluster, which will be one of three such hubs in the southern metropolis.
The proposal emphasizes the allocation of land for the construction of public medical institutions and hospitals that have deteriorated and faced crowding in Thu Duc City.
This includes the second unit of Le Van Thinh Hospital, covering 0.9 hectares, the second facility of Le Van Viet Hospital, spanning an area of 1.5 hectares, and the 5.8-hectare Thu Duc General Hospital, which are all initially proposed for funding through budget allocations and loans within stimulus packages.
It also comprises an additional 0.8 hectares of land earmarked for the construction of the second facility of the Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital, which will be financed through stimulus package loans, and a 2.9-hectare plot designated for the establishment of a cutting-edge medical screening facility, which will be initiated through a calll for private investment.
In addition, the plan encompasses the development of the first-ever stroke hospital in Ho Chi Minh City and the Ho Chi Minh City Mental Hospital in Thu Duc City, both to be built in the public-private partnership (PPP) form.
Furthermore, there are plans to give priority to land allocation for the establishment of additional medical training institutions focused on producing high-quality human resources.
These include the Faculty of Medicine at the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCMC) and an innovative model that integrates the school and institute of the University Medical Center under the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City.
Additionaly, there are plans to collaborate with medical universities from countries with advanced healthcare systems like Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, among others.
Once completed, the Thu Duc medical cluster will become the third hub of its kind in Ho Chi Minh City after the Central medical cluster catering to inner city districts’ residents and the Tan Kien medical cluster serving people in Binh Chanh District.
