The administration of a town in Phu Yen Province, south-central Vietnam has commended and rewarded an 11th grader for detecting and catching a motorbike thief earlier this month.
Ngo Binh Thinh, chairman of the People’s Committee of Hai Rieng Town, Song Hinh District, Phu Yen Province, said on Tuesday that he had given a certificate of merit together with a cash bonus to Kpa Y Sem, a 16-year-old student of Nguyen Du High School.
At about 9:40 pm on December 2, Sem was going out with his older brother when he detected a young man riding a motorbike which his friend had lost earlier.
Sem immediately reported the case to police in Hai Rieng Town and ran after the thief for over 10 kilometers.
He later caught the crook and handed him over to police.
A leader of the Hai Rieng Town police said the thief was Nguyen Huy Hieu, residing in Song Hinh District, who had been involved in many previous motorbike thefts in the district.
