Public workers in Vietnam will have a total of 17 days off to celebrate public holidays in 2024, including 11 official days and six days of compensatory leave as certain holidays overlap weekends, according to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs.
From 2021, Vietnam has mandated a total of 11 days off for public holidays, including five days for the Lunar New Year holiday, two days for the National Day holiday, and one day each for the New Year holiday, the Hung Kings Commemoration Day, the Reunification Day, and the International Workers' Day.
In Vietnam, workers were granted a three-day respite for the New Year holiday, comprising the first day of 2024, which coincided with Monday, along with the preceding Saturday and Sunday (December 30 and 31, 2023).
Officials, public servants, and employees working at administrative, non-business agencies, and political and socio-political organizations will later enjoy the seven-day Lunar New Year, lasting from February 8 to 14, or the 29th day of the last month of this lunar year to the fifth day of the next lunar year.
As for businesses, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs suggested three plans for the Lunar New Year holiday, either lasting from February 9 to 15, February 8 to 14, or February 7 to 13.
Laborers will later have a day off each for the Hung Kings Commemoration Day, the Reunification Day, and the International Workers’ Day, which fall on April 18, April 30, and May 1, respectively.
Meanwhile, the National Day holiday will last four days from August 31 to September 3.
Apart from these national holidays, foreign laborers in Vietnam are permitted to have one day off for their traditional New Year day and another for their home country's National Day.
