The international terminal at Da Nang International Airport in Da Nang City, central Vietnam has achieved the prestigious distinction of being the first in the country to receive a five-star rating from Skytrax, a renowned UK-based airline and airport review and ranking site.

This noteworthy rating upgrade occurred within a short span of nine months, following the terminal's initial assessment as a four-star facility by the same rating agency.

Such a great achievement resulted from its continued efforts in improving facilities, enhancing service quality, and bettering the overall passenger experience, said Do Trong Hau, deputy general director of the Da Nang International Terminal Investment and Operation Company.

Skytrax highly commended the terminal's amenities, which include business-class lounges, baby strollers, children's playing areas, mother and baby rooms, self-check-in counters, self-baggage drop facilities, automatic immigration gates, and automated boarding gates.

Prayer rooms, shopping carts, and private medical rooms have also been made available at the terminal.

In prioritizing passenger experiences, the terminal underlines the promotion of Vietnamese culture by incorporating miniatures infused with national identity throughout the premises.

It has introduced the 'Heritage Road' traditional art performing program, catering to international visitors since late 2022, among other engaging activities.

By the end of 2023, only 19 airports and three airport terminals around the world had been rated five stars by Skytrax.

Earlier in December, the terminal was awarded a Gold ranking, the highest out of the three grades -- Silk, Jade, Gold -- of a Welcome Chinese certificate issued by the China Tourism Academy under the China National Tourism Administration.

Given that ranking, the terminal has positioned Vietnam as the first nation in Southeast Asia to be awarded the Welcome Chinese certification.

Air travel is the main source of visitors to Da Nang, the Vietnam Government Portal reported, citing statistics from the municipal Department of Tourism.

Last year, this coastal tourist city welcomed more than 40,000 flights with about 6.3 million travelers on board, 1.5 times higher than in 2022 and equal to 82 percent of that in 2019, when the COVID-19 pandemic was yet to hit the country.
