The northern part of Vietnam may have warmer weather and less drizzle starting from Sunday due to a weakening cold front, while another cold mass is expected to move into the region next weekend, said a weather forecaster.
Northern and north-central localities have experienced light rains and reduced visibility over the past few days, with the impact of a weakening cold snap and high-altitude winds to blame, according to Vu Anh Tuan, deputy head of the weather forecasting department under the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting.
Temperatures in Hanoi and other northern localities ranged between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius, while mountainous locations witnessed mercury of below 12 degrees Celsius.
The weather forecaster said it could be sunny in the region between January 18 and 19.
Meanwhile, from January 19 to 21, a new moderate to strong cold front will likely arrive in northern Vietnam and bring much cooler air to the area.
The chill weather could be intense in the northern region until Vietnam’s Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, due in February.
He added that drizzle is expected to return to the region by the end of this month.
