A woman in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday handed over a 0.5-kilogram, 60-centimeter python, which she found on her bed in the early hours on Sunday last week, to local forest protection officers.
The municipal Forest Protection Department received the python from Ton Nu Thi Xi, residing in Tan Thoi Hiep Ward, District 12.
A forest protection officer said the reptile is scientifically known as Python bivittatus, which is on the list of rare and endangered species.
Xi told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that she was sleeping with her two children when she accidentally touched a soft and cold animal at about 2:00 am on Sunday last week.

She was frightened as she was not sure what type of snake it was.
She told her two children to go to the living room, while she called on her neighbors for help.
Six neighbors arrived at Xi’s house to catch the animal.
One of them threw off the blanket and determined the animal was a python, she recounted.
She did not know where the python was from or how it had entered her house.
She handed over the snake to the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department as she wanted it to be released back to nature, even though a person had asked for the reptile.
