Hanoi intends to put the elevated section of the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line, the second of its kind in the capital city, into commercial operations in June this year, a local official told a meeting on Friday.

The overall progress of the Nhon-Hanoi Station route has reached 77.76 percent, with the construction progress of the elevated section at 99.65 percent and the underground section at 37.25 percent, according to the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB) - the investor of the project.

Quality and safety management have been enhanced, and no safety problems have occurred, MRB affirmed.

During the meeting, Nguyen Cao Minh, head of MRB, stated that the trial operation of the elevated section of the metro line will conclude by the end of April.

By the end of June, the system safety certification and inspection for this section will be completed by the investor and state management agencies, preparing for the handover to Hanoi Railway Company (Hanoi Metro) for commercial operation.

Duong Duc Tuan, deputy chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, emphasized the need to meet the June target.

The Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line will run 12.5 kilometers from Nhon in Nam Tu Liem District to the Hanoi Railway Station in the downtown area, with 8.5 kilometers on elevated tracks, four kilometers underground, and one depot.

Work on the metro line began on September 25, 2010 and its completion was initially scheduled for 2016.

However, the project was delayed several times for various reasons, increasing its total investment from VND18 trillion (US$731.5 million) to VND34.5 trillion ($1.4 billion).
