Eight crew members including five Vietnamese and three South Koreans were rescued after a fishing boat with 10 people on board capsized off the southern island of Jeju in South Korea on Friday, the Yonhap News Agency reported.
The news agency cited Coast Guard officials of South Korea as saying that five South Korean and five Vietnamese were aboard the 33-metric-ton vessel when it overturned in waters some 20 kilometers off the city of Seogwipo at 7:24 am.
A nearby fishing boat managed to rescue the above-mentioned eight crew members.
However, one of them, a South Korean, was pronounced dead at 10:07 am after being hospitalized with cardiac arrest.
The seven others were receiving medical care for hypothermia.
Meanwhile, two South Korean crew members remain missing.
The officials added that three Coast Guard patrol vessels, two helicopters, and nine other ships were joining a search and rescue operation within a 3.6-kilometer radius of the scene of the incident, but strong winds and high waves made the operation more challenging.
Besides, one Coast Guard official was badly injured and was rushed to a hospital after being swept away by waves during the search operation.
