-- The Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security announced on Friday that it has passed a plan to put nearly 188,400 special car license plates up for auction online, scheduled to begin on Monday next week and last around one month.

-- A 58-year-old South Korean director of a company in Thua Thien-Hue Province, central Vietnam has been detained for allegedly offering close to 18,000 clothing sets whose materials were smuggled items, the provincial police agency confirmed on Friday.

-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Friday ordered the relevant ministries and localities in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region like Ben Tre, Tien Giang, Hau Giang, Soc Trang to take preventive measures against saltwater intrusion, which could reach its peak between March 10 and 15 and cause a shortage of fresh water in the region.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City administration has approved a scheme on developing the city’s pharmaceutical industry until 2030, according to which the southern metropolis is set to build a 300ha pharmaceutical industrial park in the 2025-30 period, the municipal health authority confirmed on Friday.

-- A group of scientists in Vietnam recently discovered a number of gene mutations that may increase the risk of autism spectrum disorder among children.

-- Vietnam saw its fishery exports to Australia in the first two months of the year up 33 percent year on year. The rise was attributed to local exporters making the most of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership and rebounding demand of the Australian market for Vietnamese fishery products, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers.

-- Reuters cited the United Nations as saying on Friday that nearly 3,000 pregnant women in Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince, risk being cut off from essential healthcare if the current gang war-driven paralysis of the city continues.

-- Deforestation in Brazil's Amazon rainforest fell 30 percent in February from a year earlier, government data showed on Friday, as President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's government worked toward a pledge to end illegal deforestation by 2030, Reuters reported.
