The management board of the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in Thu Duc City has written to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee asking for approval to temporarily convert a land lot planned for a green park into a driving range.

The management board explained that there is not any detailed plan for investment in the green park.

The construction of a temporary driving range is aimed at generating stable earnings to fuel the board’s operation during the 2023-25 period, said the board.

The management board had previously received many proposals from multiple investors to tap land lot DL-6, which covers 50,900 square meters in An Khanh Ward under Thu Duc City, to build a driving range.

The land plot was cleared and is now abandoned.

According to the management board, the driving range is planned to comprise a golf course, a food and beverage service area, a security house, roads, a parking lot, and a green space.

An area of grass for practicing golf is set to span 30,000 square meters, while the remaining area will be used for a public park to serve residents.

The management board proposed renting the land lot out for five years until December 31, 2029, exclusive of six months for construction.

After this period, if the municipal People’s Committee deploys its investment in the green park at the location, the management board will terminate the rental contract and take back the land lot.

As for the driving range project, the management board will be in charge of conducting related procedures, while participating partners will pour capital into its components, run the driving range, ensure its efficiency, and return the land lot after the contract ends.

If the proposal is approved, the driving range is expected to earn around VND2.5 billion (US$100,030) a year.
