An International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Training Center was launched at Military Hospital 175 in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, marking the first of its kind in Vietnam.
Phung Si Tan, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, congratulated the Military Hospital 175, under the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, on the establishment of the ITLS training center.
The launch of the center enables Vietnam to stay active in offering ITLS training and granting ITLS certificates to military medical forces of Vietnam and other countries who will join UN peacekeeping operations as well as to other military and non-military healthcare workers in the country, according to Tran Quoc Viet, director of the Military Hospital 175.
The center will train more ITLS instructors meeting international standards to pave the way for the establishment of a second ITLS training center in the country, contributing to elevating Vietnam’s position in the field and promoting further cooperation between the Southeast Asian country and international partners.
U.S. partners had previously been operating ITLS training courses at the hospital since February last year.
The training courses took place in five phases, with the aim of training and awarding ITLS certificates to 110 Vietnamese trainees, including 34 from the level-2 field hospital No. 5, 47 being healthcare workers of the Military Hospital 175, and 29 from military-run units.
Official data showed that there are 124 ITLS training centers in the world, with four located in Southeast Asia.
