Authorities of the districts in Da Nang City, central Vietnam should offer rewards to individuals who provide police with tips about stick-on advertisements in a bid to stop the wrongdoing, according to Ha Vy, deputy director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports.
Vy was speaking at a discussion held in Da Nang on Tuesday between city leaders and young people to promote urban civilization and protect the environment.
Widespread stick-on ads are a headache for not only Da Nang but also other major cities in Vietnam.
To clamp down on stick-on ads, local authorities should clear such ads and impose administrative fines on those who plaster them in public places.
Following the success of rewarding whistleblowers who warn authorities of the illegal dumping of construction waste, the city should give rewards to people who provide information about those who illicitly stick ads in public places, Vy said.

Besides, he suggested local authorities assign police officers to lie in ambush to promptly detect and penalize offenders.
Many utility poles are covered with ads, affecting the cityscape, heard the discussion.
Tran Ngoc Thach, deputy director of the municipal Department of Information and Communications, said that after being informed of phone numbers on these stick-on ads, the department quickly deactivated them.
However, the work was not able to put an end to the illegal act of plastering ads on utility poles, walls, and light poles.
