Heavy rain caused the wall of an indoor playground in Ba Vi District, Hanoi to collapse, killing three children on Sunday evening.
Hoang Van Chuyen, chairman of the People’s Committee of Ba Trai Commune in the district, recounted that at 10:30 pm, during a rainstorm, some families sought refuge at a friend’s house, which is also a children’s playground.
While the adults gathered outside, four children played indoors.
As three of the children played near the house wall, the deluge of rainwater cascaded down an earthen slope outside the house, exerting pressure on the premise’s structure, which led to its collapse, crushing the three to death.
Another child narrowly escaped harm.
“The incident claimed the lives of three young children, aged between three and five years old,” Chuyen stated.
On Sunday evening, the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting had warned of moderate to very heavy rains in Hanoi and several northern provinces.
Their warning issued at 11:00 pm, utilizing satellite imagery, thunderstorm positioning data, and weather radar, highlighted the development of convective cloud areas causing intense rainfall in areas including Ba Vi District, Dan Phuong District, Me Linh District, Phuc Tho District, Thach That District, and Son Tay Town.
