Widespread rainfall lasting more than three hours on Friday morning resulted in inundation along many streets in Da Nang City, central Vietnam.

This is the first downpour of the rainy season in this coastal city, temporarily keeping the prolonged scorching heat at bay.

The long-lasting rain left some downtown streets submerged in 20-40 centimeters of water.

Streets encircling Da Nang Hospital, a flooding hotspot in the city, were more than 30 centimeters under water, making life tougher for commuters.

Inundation also hit Hai Phong Street in front of the Da Nang train station.

On September 2 Street in Hai Chau District, some road sections were more than 40 centimeters under water, prompting vehicles to travel in the lane closest to the median strip to avoid heavy flooding.

Several other streets in Cam Le District and Lien Chieu District experienced the same fate.

The inundation was mainly attributed to sewer entrances clogged with garbage or covered by local residents to prevent their foul smell.

Some suburban areas like Hoa Vang District were also waterlogged following the hours-long rainfall.

According to the weather agency of central Vietnam, moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms may continue to come down on many districts across the city on Friday evening.
