Ho Chi Minh City is set to allocate VND350 billion (US$13.7 million) for renovating and upgrading roads, constructing pedestrian bridges, and installing traffic lights at 76 intersections to enhance traffic safety through 2026, following approval for such a plan at the 15th session of the 10th-tenure People’s Council for the 2021-26 term.
The municipal People’s Council passed a project to enhance traffic safety whose investor is the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center on Sunday morning.
The capital for the project will be sourced from the city’s budget.
In particular, the city will renovate a section of National Highway 50 from Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard to Street No. 10 in Binh Chanh District and a section of Road No. 15 in Cu Chi District.
As per the project, the city is set to upgrade a road under the Phu Huu Bridge in Thu Duc City and construct another leading to the Kenh Te Bridge in District 7.
A pedestrian bridge on National Highway 1K in Thu Duc City and another on Road No. 8 in Cu Chi District will also be built.
Ho Chi Minh city authorities will install traffic lights at 76 intersections to ensure traffic safety.
The project aims to improve traffic on streets that are notorious for congestion and accidents.
Its goals include ensuring safety at busy intersections, reducing traffic accidents, and facilitating travel and cargo transport for local residents.
