Border guard officers on Sunday last week caught eight Laotians trafficking 198 kilograms of drugs from Laos to Vietnam, the Border Guard of Quang Nam Province in central Vietnam announced on Thursday.
These Lao traffickers, including three men and five women, were caught red-handed transporting the drugs in a car at 11:20 am on Sunday at the Nam Giang international border gate, located in Quang Nam’s Nam Giang District.
The pair of Nam Giang - Dakta Ok international border gates link Quang Nam with the neighboring Lao province of Sekong.
The border guards seized 44 bricks of heroin and approximately 181 kilograms of other drugs from these smugglers.
The provincial Border Guard is working with relevant agencies to handle this transnational drug trafficking ring.
On Thursday morning, Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, secretary of the provincial Party Committee, presented awards to three border guard units and six individuals for their great efforts to bust this drug trafficking ring.
