-- Asia Park, an amusement complex in Da Nang City, central Vietnam will be renamed Da Nang Downtown and offer many world-class artistic performances starting next month, director of the complex Phung Pham Thanh Thuy said on Wednesday.

-- A magnitude-3.5 earthquake struck Luc Yen District of the northern Vietnamese province of Yen Bai at a depth of 10km on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Institute of Geophysics.

-- The Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients in Kien Giang Province, southern Vietnam is coordinating with the U.S.’s medical mission Mercer On Mission to provide musculoskeletal check-ups and fit prosthetic limbs to nearly 1,000 poor patients at no charge until June 2.

-- Police in Thai Binh Province, northern Vietnam are investigating an incident in which a student of a local kindergarten died after being left in a closed car during Wednesday.

-- Ho Chi Minh City welcomed over 2.28 million international tourist arrivals in the first five months of this year, a surge of nearly 32 percent year on year, the municipal Department of Tourism reported on Wednesday.

-- Thousands of grasshoppers appeared in a commune in Lang Son Province, located in northern Vietnam, damaging crops of local residents, a local official told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Wednesday.

-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong, during phone talks on Wednesday afternoon, agreed to boost the development of new-generation Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIPs) in Vietnam, describing the VSIP model as a lighthouse in the two countries’ bilateral economic ties.

-- Vietnam successfully defended their championship title at the 2024 Asian Volleyball Confederation Challenge Cup for Women after a 3-0 triumph over Kazakhstan on Wednesday.

-- As many as 316 athletes from 14 Asian countries and territories will compete at the ninth Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships, scheduled for June 8-10 in Hanoi, the Vietnam News Agency quoted the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation as reporting on Wednesday.

World News

-- “A volcano in southwestern Iceland sent glowing hot lava shooting 50 meters into the air on Wednesday, its fifth eruption since December, shortly after an eight-week long eruption on the same Reykjanes peninsula came to an end,” according to Reuters.

-- “A Samsung Electronics union in South Korea will begin escalating strike action next week by staging the first ever walkout over demands for higher wages,” Reuters reported, citing union officials on Wednesday.
