As many as 16 patrol teams are working in Ho Chi Minh City’s outlying district of Binh Chanh to detect and handle cases of random garbage disposal in an effort to protect the living environment and the landscape.
The administration of the district had previously directed the authorities of communes and towns to establish these dedicated teams and install cameras to promptly detect and penalize litterbugs.
Nearly half a month after the establishment, the teams handled 10 cases of illegal dumping, impounding three vehicles transporting garbage to residential areas for disposal.
Besides, the district has called on residents to join hands to protect their living environment.
Local authorities were also urged to erect signs banning dumping along roads leading to vacant areas to prevent illegal rubbish heaps from being formed, and waste burning.
Moreover, relevant agencies were tasked with reviewing and listing factories and firms that release much garbage during their production processes such as garment, footwear and metallurgy companies to step up supervision into them.
A month ago, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper published an article on illegal dumping in Vinh Loc A Commune in Binh Chanh District.
According to the article, an illegal landfill strewn with all types of industrial trash lay along a canal in the commune.
Many residents were shocked at such a vast dumpsite in the southern metropolis.
The Vinh Loc A Commune People’s Committee quickly handled the case and restored the previous status quo of the area.
