Six children were injured when a canopy at a cultural house in Hanoi fell on a stage where 13 children were performing a dance on Monday.

Hoang Manh Cuong, head of the education and training division in Phuc Tho District, Hanoi, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Tuesday that the six children suffered minor wounds.

Four of them had slight scratches, a third grader was suspected of sustaining a foot fracture, and a grade-six student required several stitches, Cuong informed, adding that they were eligible for discharge from hospital after treatment.

He attributed the incident to rains, which caused the mortar of the cultural house to peel off.

At the time, strong winds hit ropes connected to the canopy, causing it to fall down.

Local authorities and education agencies in Phuc Tho District have asked communes to ensure the safety of students during activities in the ongoing summer break, Cuong said.
