The Green Economy Forum & Exhibition 2024 (GEFE 2024) will take place in Ho Chi Minh City from October 21 to 23, Dominik Meichle, chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham), told a meeting with chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Phan Van Mai on Tuesday afternoon.
GEFE was hosted in the southern metropolis for the first time in 2022 with the aim of helping Vietnam meet its COP26 commitments and accomplish its socio-economic development goals.
The year’s GEFE is set to feature policy dialogues, international seminars on green growth and renewable energy, and an expo.
One of the highlights of GEFE 2024 will be an event for university students that is aimed at providing them with the opportunity to discuss global issues and find out solutions.
Besides, university students can participate in a job fair, which serves as a bridge between companies and students, as part of the event.
At GEFE 2024, European enterprises and Vietnamese firms will have the chance to network and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The EuroCham leader hoped that the city’s top officials would take part in the upcoming event’s activities.
Chairman Mai said that Ho Chi Minh City would not only be a place to host the event, but also benefit from knowledge and information about green economy development shared by the global community.
Therefore, the city is willing to support EuroCham to organize the GEFE 2024, he stressed.
At the meeting, Mai congratulated Meichle on his election as chairman of EuroCham, as well as highly valued the latter’s contribution to boosting the Vietnam - Europe commercial and economic relations.
The city’s leader expected EuroCham, with over 1,400 members in Vietnam, to initiate more activities to connect and support small and medium enterprises, contributing to the growth of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the southern region in general.
Mai underscored that Ho Chi Minh City and other southern localities would create favorable conditions for European investors to do business and expand their reach in the region.
Meichle, chief executive officer of Bosch Vietnam, was appointed as chairman of EuroCham in March this year.
He is the successor of Gabor Fluit, whose tenure was marked by a surge in EuroCham members and increased policy advocacy.
